Solar Farm Investment
Solar power for Mine Sites is now a very viable option, its possible to save up to 75% on energy costs.
The concept of running Solar power along side traditional diesel generators has always been possible but the cost of solar power generation was limiting, with the reduction in solar power installation costs reduced and the ever increasing cost of diesel fuels its a very clear alternative to diesel or gas generation.
The way Solar Power works in parallel to DG is simple enough, if there was 3 x DG units in use at the facility we would replace the use of 2 x DG during daylight hours and leave one unit in line to take the unexpected demand or a low light condition is experienced (cloud), the remaining 2 DG are connected still in parallel to start if certain voltage demands are not met (night use) the units would auto start and supply until energy generating conditions are met again (daylight)
The advantages of running Solar Power at a mine site?
- Direct fuel savings, up to 75%
- Maintenance savings, services reduced on running hours, reduced down time as result of DG being rotated when services are required.
- Reduced carbon emissions.
- Increased carbon credits.
- Greener environmental operation.
- Greener cleaner social responsibility.
- Greater marketing opportunity as result of closer to neutral carbon impact.
What we need to assist:
- Cost of fuel to your area of operation
- Genset details
- Genset coms if any.
What would be needed on site:
- A full site assessment would be needed, the actual power used would need to be measured and calculated.
- Area suitable in size and position, the units can be moved around the site if needed, the structure is fully demountable and transportable, if the site moves the Solar farm can move with it.
- The electrical fit out of the installation again would be subject to site evaluation and the type of generation units in place.
